John Foster broke down in tears the moment he heard the heartbreaking news—Kim Torres, a devoted fan of his, had passed away while visiting Nashville to see his Grand Ole Opry debut. Overwhelmed with grief, he did the only thing his heart knew how to do: turn the pain into music. Without hesitation, he joined forces with his American Idol friends Breanna Nix and IAMKNOWN to sing Vince Gill’s soul-stirring classic, Go Rest High On That Mountain, as a tribute to Kim. And when their voices rose with raw emotion, no one could hold back the tears—not the crowd, not the band… not even Vince Gill himself.

American Idol Alums Unite For Faithful Country Collaboration

Although their season of American Idol may be over, John Foster, Breanna Nix, and IAMKNOWN are not done singing together, and their recent cover of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” proves it.

Breanna and IAMKNOWN (real name Rylie O’Neill) were duet partners during Hollywood Week. They showcased their faith by covering “Gratitude,” a song by Christian artist Brandon Lake. Their stunning performance amazed everyone in the room.

Jelly Roll, who served as Idol‘s artist-in-residence this year, is good friends with Brandon and joined him on a remix of his song “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” While watching Breanna and IAMKNOWN sing “Gratitude,” Jelly Roll FaceTimed Brandon, who said their performance was “the most gorgeous version” he’d ever heard of the song.

Following their duet, Breanna advanced to the next stage of the competition, but IAMKNOWN was eliminated. Breanna eventually came in third place, John Foster came in second, and Jamal Roberts was crowned the winner of the season.

The Idol finale aired on May 18, and some of the contestants have since reunited to sing together again. Recently, John and Breanna shared a video of themselves singing part of Randy Travis’ “I Told You So.” Since they didn’t cover the whole song, their duet left fans begging to hear more.

The duo delivered, although they didn’t finish singing “I Told You So.” Instead, they shared a new video of them teaming up with IAMKNOWN to sing Vince Gill‘s heartbreaking hit “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

Vince wrote the song over the course of several years. He first started it after Keith Whitley passed away in 1989. Then, when Vince’s brother, Bob, died in 1983, he finished the song as a tribute to him.

“Go Rest High” hit country radio in 1985, and it became a Top 20 hit. Since its release, Vince has delivered many tearjerking performances of the song at memorial services for friends and fellow artists who’ve passed away.

Fans React After Hearing John Foster, Breanna Nix, And IAMKNOWN Sing “Go Rest High On That Mountain”

Anyone who’s heard “Go Rest High on That Mountain” knows it’s not an easy song to sing. If an artist doesn’t manage to project the emotions within the lyrics, the delivery falls flat.

However, nothing was “flat” about John, Breanna, and IAMKNOWN’s collaboration. They completely tapped into the song’s deep emotions and delivered a performance that fans adored. Plus, their harmonies were simply stunning.

The trio didn’t cover the whole song, prompting many requests to hear them sing the entire thing together. Some of the comments on their video were:

“I’d love to hear the whole song. Just lost my husband Keep singing for Jesus John.”

“Oh my goodness, I want to hear the whole thing.”

“The sweetest singing ever!!”

“So beautiful! Y’all’s voice just blend so well together.”

“Oh wow if you guys could tour as a group that would be so awesome.”

“All 3 of you are so filled with incredible talents and spiritual gifts from God!!! You are gifts to us all from God, and we are SO HONORED that He has allowed us to live during the time of your generation and get to witness you on earth and follow your journeys!!!”

Watch John Foster, Breanna Nix, and IAMKNOWN’s heavenly rendition of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” in the video below. We feel like Vince would be proud!
