Why Everyone’s Talking About John Foster The Rising Teen Star of American Idol 2025!

At just 18 years old, John Foster is quickly becoming a standout star on American Idol Season 23. With his classic country charm, soulful voice, and down-to-earth personality, the Louisiana native is capturing the hearts of viewers across the country. After securing a spot in the Top 10, Foster’s fanbase continues to grow—and it’s easy to see why.

Here are three powerful reasons why John Foster is the name to watch this season:

He Comes from a Small Town with Big Dreams

Born and raised in Addis, Louisiana, John Foster hails from a tight-knit community of just under 7,000 residents. His family owns Benoit’s Country Meat Block, a beloved local business known for its Cajun specialties. The town has rallied behind Foster, cheering him on every step of the way.

His grandmother, Verbie Benoit, spoke to The Advocate about John’s growing success:

“Every week, it’s better and better. I didn’t know he had more talent to show us, but he does. I pray for him—not necessarily for him to win, but for God to be with him. He has such a good head on his shoulders. He’s just that kid.”

He’s Not Just a Singer—He’s Studying to Become an Oncologist

While his music career is on the rise, Foster has big plans outside of the spotlight. He was co-valedictorian of his high school class and is now pursuing a degree in biology at LSU with the goal of becoming an oncologist.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, he shared:

“Whether I decide to pursue medicine or music full-time, I will always be involved in fighting for a cure.”

Balancing rigorous academic goals with a musical career is no small feat—but it’s another reason fans are inspired by his dedication and work ethic.

Carrie Underwood Is One of His Biggest Supporters

During the show’s Iconic Idol Moments week, Foster delivered an emotional rendition of “I Told You So”—a song originally performed on Idol by Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis.

“This is my way to say, ‘I love you, Carrie. Thank you for all the support,’” Foster told viewers.

Underwood was clearly touched:

“I’m blushing!” she smiled during the live show.

In an interview with People, Underwood said:

“He’s one of those people who doesn’t even know how good he is. Week to week, we’ve seen so much growth. He reminds me of my oldest son—I just feel like a proud mom when he sings.”

Foster responded with humility:

“It was such an honor to pay tribute to the incredible Carrie Underwood. She’s been my voice on the judge’s panel, and I hope that my performance gave her the respect that she deserves.”

What’s Next for John Foster?

As American Idol Season 23 heats up, John Foster’s journey is only just beginning. Whether he’s pursuing his dream in medicine or music, one thing is clear: he’s a once-in-a-generation talent with a heart to match.

Tune into American Idol this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC to see John take the stage as part of the Top 10 in a night dedicated to “Ladies of Music.” America will vote live to determine who moves forward into the Top 8!
