John Foster and Fellow Country Singer Deliver Studio-Quality Duet of ‘In Color’ — A Powerful Idol Moment

With a voice made for classic country, American Idol Top 10 contestant John Foster continues to shine — and his duet with Todd O’Neill is proof. The two teamed up for a powerful performance of Jamey Johnson’s “In Color,” bringing high energy and heartfelt emotion to the stage. Their voices blended seamlessly in a set that sounded like it came straight from a studio recording.

Taking on a song as iconic as “In Color” is no easy task, but John and Todd made it their own. The raw, rugged charm in their vocals — combined with tight harmonies — delivered a performance that had fans buzzing. From the very first note, it was clear they weren’t just singing; they were telling a story.

Watch their duet below.

Earlier this season, during the April 28 episode themed “Iconic Idol Moments,” John also paid tribute to judge Carrie Underwood with a performance of “I Told You So,” originally sung by Randy Travis and Underwood on the Idol stage in 2009.

“Carrie Underwood’s kind of been my voice on the panel,” John shared. “In my first audition, she asked me to sing a second song, and if I didn’t sing that second song, Luke [Bryan] would’ve been a no. This is my way to say, ‘I love you, Carrie. Thank you for all the support.’”

The performance ended with a touching gesture — John removed his hat in front of Underwood as he sang directly to her. “I’m blushing!” she said with a smile. “I love watching you grow every time you take the stage. I’ll speak for Randy Travis when I say I really think he would’ve liked that.”

Luke Bryan, always ready with a joke, chimed in: “You know [Carrie’s] husband’s a hockey player, right?” Carrie laughed and said, “My husband’s a big man!” to which John respectfully replied, “All respect, all respect.”

Viewers were clearly impressed, voting John into the Top 10. He’s set to return to the stage on May 4 for a special episode celebrating iconic women in music.

With a studio-worthy duet, a growing fanbase, and a deep love for the genre, John Foster is quickly becoming one of the standout country voices on American Idol this season.
