As Britain’s Got Talent’s latest batch of hopefuls hit our screen, last year’s winner has revealed a huge career move.
Sydnie Christmas has been enjoying her dramatic rise to fame since winning the ITV competition. However, she is not forgetting her roots and has announced she’s going “back to school” despite bagging the £250,000 BGT prize fund and new career potential.
The powerful singer, 29, took to Instagram to reveal her next move. She was seen on her Stories beaming as she wrote: “Back to school. Let’s go finish this Level 3 PT course.” She previously revealed her plans to return in January.
Prior to her BGT fame, Sydnie worked at a central London gym. In January, she told to The Mirror, she said: “I’m going back to school in March. I’m going to finish my level three PT qualification. It’s good to have something, just incase.”
The admission came after a defiant Sydnie also revealed she wasn’t going to immediately quit her former gym day job after BGT success. Ahead of the final, Sydnie joked: “I’ve already had two weeks off – and I’m on a zero-hours contract. I have rent to pay!”
However, she admitted she had wanted to live her dreams – and that’s what she has been doing in the 12 months that followed her huge win. She has released a debut album, while also taking her life story on a musical tour across the nation.
Speaking ahead of her recent show at the Glasshouse in Gateshead, which was part of her My Way Tour, she explained she still has a number of dreams to tick off her list. Sydnie insisted her main dream still remains the same as she still has her sights on a big West End performance. “Of course it hasn’t changed,” she confessed.
“You can’t walk in to a West End show, though. You have to be right for the role. I’m still auditioning. There are things that I’m not right for and I don’t get, but that’s just that game. But, what BGT has done is put me on a pedestal for people to go ‘oh that’s Sydnie’. So it does help. It helps me get into a room because people already know I can sing. So it’s helped me in that respect. So, yeah I’m still dreaming and waiting.”

And she also admitted she plans to release another album in the not-so-distant future. “Every opportunity, I’m happy for,” she gushed. “Just getting consistent work, then I’m living the dream. As long as it carries on then I’m happy. Any of it. Any type of performing. Whether it be on the stage or whether it be this [touring]. I’m learning that I absolutely love it.”
