Blake Shelton & Toby Keith Perform “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” at the 2018 ACM Awards

For the first time in years, Blake Shelton was given a performance slot at the 2018 ACM Awards. Once news broke, fans eagerly speculated about which song he would choose to perform.

Many assumed he’d go with his then-current single, “I Lived It,” or perhaps “I’ll Name the Dogs,” which was up for an award. While Shelton did indeed sing “I Lived It,” he had another surprise performance in store—one no one could have anticipated.

Throwing It Back Like a Cowboy
Ahead of the ceremony, the ACM announced a series of “ACM Throwback” performances, celebrating the 25th anniversary of songs released in 1993. These performances would feature collaborations between today’s stars and country music legends.

Shelton’s participation in this throwback series was thrilling enough, but what really excited fans was the news that he would be teaming up with Toby Keith to sing Keith’s breakout hit, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” The timing was perfect, as Keith was celebrating 25 years since the song’s release, even naming his 2018 tour *The Should’ve Been A Cowboy Tour XXV*.

Shelton and Keith Conquer the ACM Awards

Their performance had the entire crowd on their feet, with many fellow artists singing along. When Keith and Shelton wrapped up, the enthusiastic response made it clear: their collaboration was one of the night’s biggest highlights.

There’s no doubt about it—Shelton and Keith’s rendition of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” was unforgettable. Relive the epic moment by watching the video below!
