A golden buzzer is not just handed out on the show. Richard Goodall earned his by leaving the judges in shock with his performance of the hit song “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.
The West Vigo Middle School custodian is also in a local band called ManOpause. Goodall’s band mate Tom Greenberg says he was not surprised by the result at all.
“I knew that was coming,” Greenberg said. “He deserved it. He’s just so good and Journey, I mean you throw him on a Journey song and he’s just the best of the best. He’s just a perfect Journey singer.”
Goodall used to be the best-kept secret in town. ManOpause performs at local gigs like Archie’s Sports Bar, where they perform anthems that other bands would not dare to attempt. Bartender Jamie Cheesman says the whole town will be supporting Goodall.
“I think it is amazing because I’ve never heard of anybody from Terre Haute making it that far,” Cheesman said. “I did hear him play at The Mill here in Terre Haute and he was amazing. He did Journey just as well as I’ve heard any other person sing Journey.”
