After recently releasing video clips about her treatment journey, audiences around the world sent prayers to Celine Dion. At times, she herself thought she would never be able to return to singing. Previously, in December 2022, Celine Dion revealed to the audience about her health condition.
In a statement, she said she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful muscle spasms. Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) affects only 1 in 1 million people. The condition forced the singer to cancel her European tour scheduled to begin in February 2023.
Despite her heartache at not being able to continue performing on stage, the 56-year-old singer said she was determined to return to the stage. “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. And I won’t stop. I won’t stop,” she said.
Each seizure lasted 10 minutes. When it appeared, the singer was lying face down on the stretcher, moaning in pain and shaking. The medical team tried to relieve the singer’s pain with Valium and nasal spray. In the released footage, Celine Dion was supported to lie on her side in the most comfortable position, but her body remained stiff. The 56-year-old singer could not move and continued to have spasms. Within seconds, Celine Dion was extremely panicked and cried loudly.
Celine Dion expressed: “I hope to find a miracle or a cure through scientific research. Five days a week, I undergo sports, physical and vocal therapy. I work on my toes, knees, calves, fingers, my voice, my voice… At first I wondered why me, how did this happen, what did I do, is this my fault? But life doesn’t give you any answers and you have to live.”
Celine Dion said she has an unknown illness. The Diva is trying her best with the medical team to improve her health. “I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete, work extremely hard. Or I give up and it’s over” – Celine Dion informed.
Appearing before the media, Celine Dion said: “The audience, I miss them.” This is a rare time the female singer appeared before the media and audience’s cameras. Many people expressed their joy at seeing the optimism and positive energy on Celine Dion’s face.
