They Received Hate Letters After They Married – 55 Years Later They’re Still Going Strong

Leslie Uggams, the renowned actress of both screen and stage, has had a captivating career spanning seven decades.

While she is often recognized for her role in the Deadpool series, her journey began at a young age when, at just 10, she recorded for MGM, encouraged by her aunt, singer Eloise Uggams. She further honed her talents at the Professional Children’s School of New York and Juilliard.

In 1969, Leslie hosted her own TV variety show, a groundbreaking achievement for a black person. Behind the scenes, her life took an unexpected turn when she fell in love with Australian actor Grahame Pratt, defying societal norms. They married in 1965 and, despite occasional hate mail, their love endured. Grahame also became Leslie’s manager, and the couple welcomed two children.

Leslie’s career flourished with Emmy nominations, and their enduring love story, which has spanned 55 years, continues to inspire. The secret to their happiness? Laughter and unwavering support.
