After his viral Christmas duet with Aled Jones, 13-year-old treble Malakai Bayoh captivated the audience once again on Britain’s Got Talent with a breathtaking rendition of Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu,” leaving Simon Cowell in awe of his “voice of an angel.”
“My big dream is to be a singer,” Malakai Bayoh shared as he captured the nation’s attention. The talented 13-year-old is competing in the 16th season of the popular show, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
The young singer’s rise to fame has been nothing short of rapid, but no viral success is truly complete without a show-stopping talent show moment.
After the usual lighthearted questioning from the judges, and a few nervous but endearing responses, it was finally time for Malakai to take the stage.
“Alright, no more questions, I promise you. Good luck,” the host said, signaling the start of his performance.
As the first chords of the organ played, the 13-year-old began to sing the iconic “Pie Jesu” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem. And then came the unforgettable moment…
His opening note immediately had Simon Cowell and the other judges turning toward him in astonishment, their jaws dropping. By the second phrase, the entire auditorium was on their feet, applauding.
As Malakai soared through his trademark high, pure, and flawless notes, the crowd erupted into a standing ovation. Simon Cowell, clearly impressed, gave the young singer a wink before pressing the coveted Golden Buzzer, sending Malakai straight to the semi-finals.
“One Of The Best Voices I Think I’ve Ever Heard,” Simon Cowell Said, Clearly Impressed.
Malakai Bayoh’s musical journey began as a chorister at St George’s Cathedral in Southwark, London. He now studies at The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, where he continues to sing in the school choir.
In November 2022, the young singer made his debut at the Royal Opera House, performing the role of Oberto in Handel’s Alcina. That same Christmas, he went viral after a stunning rendition of O Holy Night alongside singer and Classic FM presenter Aled Jones.
Just last week, Malakai wowed audiences at Classic FM Live with Viking, and made his solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall, performing works by Mozart and Handel.
Other judges were equally full of praise. “That was a stunning performance. Totally flawless and very composed,” said Amanda Holden. Within just 12 hours, the performance had already racked up over half a million views.
